Creation of storage stores for reserve cereals and legumes for periods of drought.
In times of extreme drought, soaring grain prices on distant markets put pastoral families in a situation of nutritional distress. The CSH sets up community food banks.
Built in insulating masonry that is impervious to insects and rodents, the storage stores keep strategic reserves of barley, flour, oil and powdered milk.
Families can borrow bags of cereals during the pastoral lean season and repay in kind or at cost after the animals are resold, guaranteeing a permanent fund.
